We are all longing for coziness and warmth in the winter months, aren’t we?
Go in weekend mode (whatever day of the week it is), slow down, grab the newspaper or a good book, get comfortable under a soft blanket and sit down for some quality time with one of these drinks.
This last year I started experimenting with new beverages (well new to me anyway. I fell in love with the following mixes:
1. Ginger & Lemon tea
You need:
3 cups water
the juice of 1/2 lemon
1/2 lemon in slices
1 star anise
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp honey
4 thin slices ginger
Then what?
Put all the ingredients in a casserole and bring slowly to a boil. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.
2. Chai Latte
You need:
2 cups water
2 cups milk (almond milk gives a creamy result, but you can use rice milk also)
2 cloves
10 cardamom pods
1 cm ginger in slices
2 tsp black tea
1 cinnamon stick
2 black pepper grains
2 star anise
Then what?
Crush the ingredients in a mortar.
Put the crushed ingredients in a tea bag.
Put the tea bag in the milk+water and bring slowly to a boil, cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
Note!
You can also add the milk afterwards for a nicer result. Heat the milk separately to a boil, put in a bowl and whisk until foam forms.
3. Turmeric Latte
You need:
4 cups of milk (rice milk, almond milk…)
2 tsp turmeric
a touch of cinnamon
1 tsp honey (optional)
Then what?
Assemble the ingredients in a casserole and slowly put to a boil.
4. Warm apple juice & ginger (Mike’s favorite)
You need:
3 juiced apples
4 slices ginger
1 cinnamon stick
2 slices lemon
Then what?
Juice the apples.
Heat the apple juice slowly together with the ginger & lemon slices + cinnamon.
Note!
I use the pulp of the apples in my oatmeal the next day.
5. Hot chocolate with raw cacao
You need:
1 cup almond milk
one small hand full dark (vegan) chocolate
raw cacao
1 tsp maple syrup
Then what?
Slowly heat the ingredients while whisking until the chocolate has melted.
Enjoy!
