Going Indian in the kitchen seemed like a good idea last night. I love Dhal and its creamy texture and full turmeric taste. I love to serve it as an appetizer.
You need
- 250g red lentils (1 + 1/3 cup) – soaked for at least 1 hour + rinsed before cooking
- 1 tsp grounded turmeric
- ¾ tsp sea salt
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1tsp cumin seeds
- 1 onion, in fine slices
- cilantro
Now What?
Add 800ml cold water and let it boil
Remove the foam from the boiling water
Add salt and turmeric
Turn down the stove and let simmer for 15min while whisking
You need a puree as thick as oatmeal
Put sunflower oil in a frying pan
Add cumin seeds until brown
Add onion
Bake for 5-10 minutes until brown
Add onions to lentils
Put lid on it and leave 5 minutes
Add freshly chopped cilantro
Perfect with
Papadum fried in a frying pan
Put some oil in the pan and then the papadum, fry both sides until crispy
Enjoy!
